"World's Oldest Complete Torah Found In Italy"

Oldest Torah in the world in excellent condition.
Oldest Torah in the world in excellent condition.

The world's oldest Torah has been found by Hebrew Studies professor, Mauro Perani, at the University of Bologna, in Italy. The professor noticed that the text didnt match up with the changes made in "Torah writing" by the 12th century, so he thought the scroll was from an ealier time period, and sent it to carbon testing. Perani found the complete scroll in the library of the university. The scroll- labled "Number 2 Scroll"- was wrongly classified as a 17 century Torah by Leonello Modona in 1889. The 118 foot long and 25 inch wide scroll, dates back to 1125 to 1225 C.E., based on 14 different carbon testings. These carbon testings were held in the University of Salento and the University of Illinois. The scroll is sewn together with sheepskin, includes the first five books of the Jewish bible, and the script used was oriental Babylonian tradition. Based on the excellent condition of the scroll, rarity of finding a complete Torah, and it's age, it is an estimated $ 1.3 million. It is rare to find such an old Torah, especially since more that 1,000 were destroyed by Nazis in WWII. It is probable that the scroll ended up in the university in the 19th century, from a Dominican monestary, around the time that Napollean had religious orders dispersed in Italy. Although fragments of the Torah have been found from the 8th century, and even ealier, this is the oldest complete Torah, since the 13th century Torah that was believed to be the oldest. Not anymore.

While I Wait
The trees are still
While the bushes grow with red beads,
the temple holds the secrets
of my life's mission
Yet i am still the young leaf on the tree
waiting to grow
While i wait, I learn
and worship my ancestors
But when I'm not discovering life's mysteries
I'm looking at my youth
in the liquid mirror at my feet

I like it. It descirbes the scene and is also a metaphor poem. Mr. Chester

My Life, My Tree

My life
A tree
So different
yet so alike
My life has been a tree
I started as a sapling,
needing help and support from others to grow nice-willow-tree[1].jpg
As I got stronger
things got... complicated
I lost all the support I had
I was alone in my most vulerabale state

There are parts of me
that show no light
My leaves are filled with my horrid memories
The scars on my branches won't fade
I'm stuck in silent hate

Yet,
I have light
shinning through me,
illuminating my best characteristics

Yes,
I am stuck in the ground,
but by just being here
I've told the world,
"You didn't break me!"
Yelling at the top of my lungs
that I made it

Yes,
the shadows,
scars,
and darkness
are still there
waiting for the perfect moment to strike,
but when that moment comes
I'll welcome it
That's life
My life
My tree

Beethoven

Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist, who composed the very famous: Moonlight Sonato, Fur Elise, and the 5th Symphony. Beethoven was born, approxmately, on December 17, 1770 in Bonn, the then, capitol of Electorate of Cologne, in the Holy Roman Empire. He was first taught to play the piano by his father, then was soon to become a student to, another famous classical music composer, Mozart, but returned home due to his mother's illness. As Beethoven progressed in his music carrer, around the age of 22 he began to hear things less. By 26 years old, 1796 , Beethoven was deaf, but he could still, hardly, hear talking, but not music. The cause to his loss of hearing is still unknown. After losing his hearing, Beethoven began to play more power-filled music, with a stronger base to it. Examples to this could be his 5th and 3rd symphony. Beethoven's carreer is divided into three periods. The Early Period was around the time he was being recognized to 1802. The Middle Period was 1803- 1814. In this period, Beethoven shifted music from the Classical Period to the Romantic Period. There was a lot of musicians who contributated to this but Beethoven was the main person behinded it. It was also during this period, that Beethoven was playing powerful tones. The Late Period was 1814-1815. Beethoven died on March 26, 1827 in Vienna, Ausrtia. Even after his death, you can still see millions of people listening and playing Beethoven music. He is most famous for shifting music into a new period and while deaf, which is very hard.

Both are 4's. Your poem is terrific. Make sure the essays you put on the page are all your own work. You have so many links in your Beethoven paragraph that it looks like a copy/paste job. Mr. Chester
